Dining Onboard Oasis of the Seas
So, if you are looking for a world class cruise liner with a cuisine to tempt the gods, then Royal Caribbean’s newest ship will surpass any cruise holiday you may have experienced before.
The Oasis of the Seas could be classed as the eighth wonder of the world. A feet of engineering at 1.200 feet long, with its 16 decks reaching up into the skies, she holds a staggering 6,296 passengers and 2,165 crew. The ship has been cleverly masterminded into seven different neighbourhoods all holding a plethora of eateries. From the simple quick snack options to the opulence of ‘150 Central Park’, a fine dining experience with a 10 course tasting menu.
‘150 Central Park’ has the added bonus of being headed up by an extraordinarily talented chef, the 23 year old Keriann Von Raesfeld. Keriann comes to the ‘Oasis of the Seas’ with a stack of accolades to her name, winning Best Young Cook in the World at the WACS congress. Also Keriann was part of the Team USA which won its first gold medal in Germany at the culinary Olympics. ‘150 Central Park’ is trendy without being ostentatious, an intimate dining venue with an array of finely prepared dishes, which paired with Kerianns imaginative flair, could prove to be the ‘Darling’ of the Royal Caribbean’s dining experience
The joy of this innovative ship experience is variation, fine dining one night and casual dining the next. Walking through the different neighbourhoods you cannot help but marvel at the many different foods on offer.
The neighbourhood known as the ‘Boardwalk’ encompasses the fantastic ‘Seafood Shack’, which as you would expect offers the wonders of great fresh seafood. Also for the desert lovers amongst us the temptation of marvellous over-sized deserts, weighed down with lashings of syrups and sauces, they literally groan their way to the table, how marvellous pass me a spoon. The ‘Seafood shack’ has an air of being casual and fun, a great place to meet up with friends and family. Also on the much famed ‘Boardwalk’ don’t miss the 1950′s kitsch ‘Ice Cream Parlour’, for all serious ice cream lovers this will not disappoint. Or go over to the famous ‘Johnny Rockets’ the fab ‘50′s-style diner serving probably the best burgers in the world, have fun with the staff as they double up as the entertainment.
Royal Caribbean has also made sure that the largest cruise liner in the world has not forgotten the heath conscience amongst us. The ‘Vitality Cafe’ is aptly named offering a plentiful array of healthy eating options, from snacks to great salad laden sandwiches and delectable smoothes. Also the pool and Sports Zone is home to the ‘Solarium Bistro’, which offers a wonder of culinary delights a great option for breakfast and lunch. In the evening the ‘Solarium Bistro’ welcomes the romantics amongst us to dance the night away under the stars.
For the coffee and cake lovers do nothing more than head for the Royal Promenade where you will find two marvellous cafes. Mondo Cafe has a more European flavour offering delectable pastries. Whilst the ever popular ‘Cafe Promenade’ offers Seattle’s best coffee, a great place to start the day. Also on the Royal Promenade is the ‘Cupcake Cupboard’ which pays homage to the cupcake with many gourmet variations. Here you can join in the design classes or hold a cupcake party
As you would rightfully expect Oasis of the Seas has not forsaken the wine lovers amongst us, and as featured on its ‘Freedom’ and ‘Voyager’ class ships, Vintages the wine bar sits comfortably in the ‘Central Park ‘neighbourhood. This time Vintages has been modified to ‘Beyond the Wine’, which includes a sumptuous Tapas menu.
A visit to the majestic Opus Dining Room, finds you cocooned in 1920′s French Art Deco. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Here you can take advantage of the reservation system ‘With My Time’ a great idea if you have pre-booked entertainment.
This ship has held onto some of its much loved culinary traditions such as the ‘Windjammer Marketplace’, which is the home of the Royal Caribbean’s legendary buffet, a rotating menu that consists of over 120 different options, it is a feast for the eyes not just the belly
If you are looking to sample a more diverse menu, how about trying the ‘Izumi’ Restaurant, featuring many first class Asian specialties. Also sample hot-rock cooking, food that is cooked 575 degrees suing volcanic rocks.
The largest most sophisticated cruise Liner in the world has delivered the high standards that is always synonymous with Royal Caribbean but with extras. ‘Oasis of the Seas’ has provided a culinary experience for all tastes, from the brilliantly executed menu at ‘150 park Avenue’, to the wonders of the ‘Cupcake Cupboard’.
To quote Dickens ‘Oliver Twist’ ‘Please sir I want some more’.
